Newspaper Report:

His sisters, who reside at Manchester Road, Haslingden, have received official information that their only brother, Private David A. Maxwell, East Lancashire Regiment, has been killed in action.
Had he been spared he would have been 20 years old next month, and as he enlisted in the October of 1914 it will be seen that he was one of the first of the Haslingden patriots.
His parents are both dead, his father having been ex P.C. Maxwell.  He was connected with Haslingden Parish Church Day and Sunday Schools, and was in the church choir.
On leaving school he worked for Dr. Harrison, but was employed by Dewhursts, tailors, Manchester Road when he enlisted.
He had served at the Dardanelles, but a rupture sent him into hospital for eight months.
He returned to the front last Christmas.
