Newpaper Report:

A memorial service for the late Private Herbert Peel, a Haslingden man, who fell in action on July 1st 1916, when he was reported missing was held at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Haslingden, on Sunday night, when the preacher was Mr. Pickup of Waterfoot, and the organist (Mr. Bradshaw) played the "Dead March" in "Saul".  The deceased was 33 years of age, and leaves a wife and a young son.  He was connected with Ebenezer Church, but after marrying he lived at Accrington.  He was a painter and decorator in the employment of Mr. McIntyre of Haslingden.  He enlisted in the Grenadier Guards, from which he was afterwards discharged, but later on he re-enlisted in the Accrington Pals.
