Newspaper Report:

The death of Private Harry Eastwood, of the 6th East Lancashire Regiment, took place in hospital on December 2nd, as the result of illness contracted in the Dardanelles.  The deceased soldier, who died for his country at the age of 26 years, was a son of the late mr. James Thomas Eastwood, formerly in business with the firm of Bowker and Eastwood, coal merchants, etc.  He joined the army on the outbreak of war, and previously was a weaver at the "Square" Mill.
As a boy he was a member of the Parish Church choir.  Brought up by his aunt, Mrs. Haslam 27 Deardengate, he latterly resided with a cousin at 17, Rifle Street. His brother, Bert Eastwood who is now in process of training with the East Lancashires in the South of England, was home on furlough last weekend, and was able to attend the memorial service on Sunday morning at the Haslingden Parish Church, at which the Vicar, Rev. G.W,. Clarke, M.A., paid an eloquent tribute to the dead soldier and former choir boy.
