Rushton, Henry John - Private (6919)

Missing in France 1st July 1916 and presumed to have been killed on this date,
Age 20
Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.

Another "Rushton" family who lost 2 sons in Battle (the other son being Edgar)

Newspaper Report:

Private H.J. Rushton of the 2nd Battalion Royal Fusiliers, who in our last issue was offically reported missing, after a recent engagement in France, prior to enlistment, resided in West View Street, Haslingden, with his parents, and joined the Public Schools Battalion on May 10th of last year, when he was 19 years of age.  At that time he was a clerk in the Corporation Tramway Offices, and was a zealous and popular official.
He was a teacher in the primary department of the Ebenezer Baptist Sunday School, Bury Road for several years, and he was also an esteemed member of the Haslingden Liberal Club.
