Newspaper Memorials:

In loving memory of my dear Son, Pte. Abraham Ward, Durham Light Infantry, died of wounds in France, October 18th 1918.

"We little thought when he left home,
He would no more return;
That he so soon in death would sleep,
And leave us here to mourn.

We mourn for you, dear son and brother,
No eyes can see us weep;
But many a silent tear we shed
Whilst others are asleep".

From Mother, Father, Sisters and Brothers, 16 Pleasant Street, Haslingden.

"We never thought when you came home,
It was your last good-bye;
For you went back so bravely,
Ne ver thinking you were going to die.

But you have died for home and country,
God knows you have done your best,
And now you are asleep in Jesus,
A British soldier laid to rest".

From his Sister Lizzie and Brother in law Bob and Children, 941, Lamb Row, Rawtenstall.

"If those who made this cruel war,
Were the only ones to fight,
What a brighter world this would be
For the aching hearts to-night".

From Annie, 87 Grane Road, Haslingden.

In loving memory of our dear son and brother, Private A. Ward, who died, October 18th 1918 aged 36 years.

"You are laid to rest in that far-off land,
And your grave i may never see;
But some gentle hand, in that far-off land,
May sprinkle some flowers for me

For honour, glory and truth,
He sacrificed his glorious youth.

One year has passed, our hearts still sore,
As time goes on we miss him more,
His memory is as fresh today,
As in the hour he passed away.

From his father, mother, sisters and brothers and brother in law.
