Newspaper Report:

Benjamin Heys was brought up from childhood in their Sunday School at Grane Road up to the age of 19, when he left the town with his two unmarried sisters to reside at Barnoldswick.  There he stayed eight years.  Three months before the war broke out he came back to Haslingden to reside with his eldest sister, Mrs. Barton, Blackburn Road.  From there he enlisted at the beginning of the war.  Up to the time when he received the wounds from which he died he had not suffered a single scratch from all the engagements from which he had participated.  He served three years in the A.S.C., and last September was transferred to the Northumberland Fusiliers, and was drafted to Italy, where he had been ten months.
