Newspaper Reports:

CORPORAL HINDLE MISSING:

Mr and Mrs. G.H. Hindle of Blackpool, and until recently of Beech Villas, Haslingden, have received official intimation that their youngest son, Corporal John Hindle, is in the list of missing, and it would appear that he was amongst the Accrington "Pals," who suffered such severe losses during the early stage of the great offensive at the beginning of July, for since that time no definite news has been received.  Mr. G.H. Hindle was formerly a member of the Haslingden Town Council, and is prominently associated with the staple industry of the town.  Great sympathy is felt with the parents and with the brother (Mr. George Hindle), and the sister (Mrs. Tom Worsley), of the missing soldier, who was of an amiable and unobtrusive disposition, and was a fine type of young manhood.  The missing corporal, who was 25 years of age, enlisted in 1914, on the formation of the Accrington "Pals" Battalion, the 11th East Lancashires, who after a very exhaustive training have given such a conspicuous example of gallantry.  He was engaged, prior to enlistment, in the office of the Haslingden Commerical Co. Ltd., and was associated with King Street Wesleyan Church and Sunday School.  He was a member of the Haslingden Liberal Club and the Haslingden Social Club, and was very popular with all with whom he came in contact.
