Newspaper Report:

HASLINGDEN TRADESMAN DIES FROM WOUNDS - BOB BAMFORD, LIVERPOOL SCOTTISH.

The death has occurred in a hospital, near the front of Private Robert Bamford, Liverpool Scottish, who was wounded last month.  His parents, who live at Blackpool, received a letter from him, dated January 27th, to the effect that he was "doing all right" after having been wounded, but on the 31st he succumbed to his injuries, particulars of which have not reached his friends at Haslingden yet.  He was 37 years old.
A Rochdale man, the deceased came to Haslingden 11 years of age and set up as a grocer at Prinny Hill Road.  He continued in business until last May, when he joined up.  In the first week of last October he went to the front with the Liverpool Scottish.
There was not a more popular man in the whole of the borough than "Bob" Bamford.  He had the qualities which always won the good word of the people he mixed with, and even strangers found him to be a pleasant fellow in whom good fellowship was well developed. He had the fortunate temperament for looking on the bright side of things, and his sunny nature and kindly heart made him welcome wherever he went.
At one time he was hon. sec, to the Tradesmen's Association, and up to joining the colours he was a member of the Conservative Club and the Catholic Club.  He attended the Parish Church, and his name is on the roll of honour there. Its also on the roll of the Conservative Club.  He was in the Catholic Club billiard team.
He was a widower, his wife, a daughter of Mrs. L. Wilcock of Chorley, having died at childbirth.  There is no family.
