Haslingden Soldiers Death

Private S. Bourke of the R.A.M.C.died on 23rd March three days after receiving a bullet wound in the abdomen whilst he was engaged in carrying a stretcher case out of the trenches. The deceased was 35 years of age and single. Previous to the war he was engaged as a weaver at Anderton and Halstead's Britannia Mill. On Whit-Sunday 1915 he left Haslingden to take up duties at King George's Hospital in London. He remained there until November when he signed up for active service joining the Field Ambulance of the British Expeditionary Force.
